EXPECT MORE LIGHT
"There’s something different about this place. When I set foot on campus, I can always sense God’s presence in an unusual way."
Over the last 28 years we’ve heard that amazing statement from parents, staff and visitors. It’s a blessing because it reveals that God’s kingdom has established a beachhead here at our school, and His presence and power are creating a unique magnetism. From the beginning we’ve yearned to be that “city on a hill” that Jesus describes in Matthew 5. Christ articulates that such a city can’t be hidden. The light that it emanates can be seen for miles around. By God’s grace RA is creating a distinct light in our city and people are noticing. There are very few places where parents, supporters, staff, volunteers, mentors and students can come together on a daily basis for the good of Birmingham and the advancement of the kingdom of God. Jesus told us in Matthew 5 that when people see the light of our good works, ultimately they’ll give praise to His Father in heaven.
Last year we embarked on the theme of "Expect More." We wanted to see the school continue to execute it’s mission of “Advancing the Two Greatest Commandments in the Life of Each Child” with even more efficiency and effectiveness. And thankfully, by year’s end, we had most of our expectations met. For the 10th year in a row we witnessed 100% of our seniors admitted to college. We watched our Fine Arts program blossom unlike ever before with a phenomenal high school performance choir, an elementary dance team, and an after school art club. RA started its first volleyball club for our high school girls as well as a golf club for all grades. We saw more mentors and more volunteers surround our students to help them grow spiritually, relationally, and academically. Several students gave their lives to Christ.
We celebrate these things and give God the praise for everyone who contributed, but we still feel like we’re just beginning. We want this school to continue to radiate hope, reconciliation, life, and restoration unlike ever before. So this year our theme is "Expect More Light." In a world that seems to be growing darker and colder by the day, we believe it is imperative that God’s people shine even brighter and increasingly share the warmth of the Gospel. We want for every single person who sets foot on our campus to feel the love of Christ and to witness His kingdom advancing in amazing ways. And we hope and pray that everyone involved in this ministry, from our parents to our students to our supporters, will seek to shine the light of their time, talent, and treasure with renewed focus and expectation—to the Glory of God.
